VACANCIES

The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) invites applications from suitable and qualified candidates to fill these vacant positions in the University:

(1) a) Senior Librarians
b) Librarians I
c) Librarians II
d) Assistant Librarians/Subject Specialists
e) System Librarians
f) Senior Library Assistants
g) Library Assistants

(2) a) Driver/Mechanics

LIBRARY
Appointed officers for advertised posts 1a – g, will be expected to assist the University Librarian with the coordination of all Library services in the University, its schools, institutes, study centres and other teaching and research units.

(1a) SENIOR LIBRARIANS
Essential Qualifications
* Masters Degree in a relevant discipline.

* Six (6) years cognate experience.

(1b) LIBRARIANS I
Essential Qualifications
* Masters Degree in a relevant discipline.

* Four (4) years cognate experience.

(1c) LIBRARIANS II
Essential Qualifications
* Masters Degree in a relevant discipline.

* Two (2) years cognate experience.

(1d) ASSISTANT LIBRARIAN/SUBJECT SPECIALISTS
Essential Qualifications
* A good first degree in Library and Information Science.

Person Specification for advertised posts (1a-e)
* Excellent communication, inter-personal, analytical, and numeric skills.

* Advanced working knowledge of Information and Communication Technology is mandatory.

* Ability to work in a team and/or with minimal supervision and interact at all levels of management.

* Ability to adapt to changing priorities, increasingly demanding roles, take initiative and have a commitment to personal and career growth.

* Strong organisational skills with keen attention to detail.

* Warm/friendly, approachable and professional conduct/appearance, flexible and responsive.

(1e)SYSTEM LIBRARIANS
Essential Qualifications
* A good first degree in Computer Science.

(1f) LIBRARY OFFICERS
Essential Qualifications
* A diploma in Library Science from a recognized University.

(1g) LIBRARY ASSISTANTS
Essential Qualifications
* At least three (3) credit passes at the SSCE/GCE level.

* Practical experience in library operations is an added advantage.

* Good communication skills.

* Must be computer literate.

* Ability to work in a team and interact at all levels of management.

* Keen attention to detail.

* Professional conduct/appearance, flexible and responsive.

(2) DRIVER/MECHANICS
The appointed candidates will be expected to carry out efficient and effective driving duties for the University locally and nationwide.

Essential Qualifications
* First School Leaving Certificate

* Drivers Trade Test

* At least 3 years experience

SALARIES AND OTHER CONDITIONS OF SERVICE

Salaries and conditions are as generally applicable in the Nigeria University System and as may be determined from time to time by the Governing Council of NOUN, and /or the Federal Government.

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

* Full term basis with an initial probation period of two years

* Salary and benefits will be commensurate with qualifications, experience, suitability of personality and general competencies/capabilities, and in tune with the existing University Salary Structure.
