Vice Chancellor’s Welcome Message
It is indeed a privilege for us at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) to host the 2nd African Council for Distance Education Conference and General Assembly here in Nigeria, from July 8 to 11 2008. As the first single mode Open and Distance Learning higher institution in West Africa, we are fast becoming a significant and major hub for open and distance learning.
The theme of the conference, Open and Distance Learning for Sustainable Development will afford us the opportunity to address the major concerns of our world and to proffer solutions. The event will be unique as it will bring together experts, ministers, directors, educators, ODL practitioners, representatives from other universities and institutions with stakeholders who are involved in promoting sustainable development on the continent and beyond.
I wish to specially invite you to this event, which will certainly provide a platform and its attendant opportunities to share knowledge, collaborate, build partnerships, develop methodologies and thus encourage the formulation, elaboration and implementation of strategies that will enhance development within our context for now and the future. Please come and enjoy the characteristic hospitality of Nigeria and NOUN.
Prof. Olugbemiro Jegede
Vice Chancellor and Host
National Open University of Nigeria
