Apart from the prescribed courses on offer in the specific academic programmes the following courses are compulsory for all students in the certificate and diploma programmes.

Mode of Study
The programme is administered through the flexible study mode. Students are provided with a print-based self-study pack for each programme. This pack is very comprehensive and carefully designed to cater for the needs of working class adults as well as other categories of learners. Students have the opportunity of meeting with tutorial facilitators who provide comments and advice on assignments at the University’s Study Centre in their locality. Apart from the practical sessions which are under taken during the internship period, attendance at tutorials is optional.
Learner Support Services
You will have the support of your Facilitator and Course Coordinator who will guide you throughout the courses and give you feedback and assistance whenever there is need. You will be entitled to free counselling services at NOUN’s designated Study Centres and can avail yourself of on-line services for contacts, advice and references.
Examination & Assessment
CCE&WT Exams are written at approved NOUN Study Centres. You will be evaluated in all courses you have registered for whether practical, theory or project work. There are three components making up your assessment.
a. The self-assessment exercises or questions within each unit of the lecture. These are
meant to probe your understanding of the concepts in the unit. It is non-grading, that
is, it does not add up to your in the course. Though your answers to the question do
not add up any credit to your overall grade in the course, it is advisable you attempt all
the questions yourself.
b. The tutor marked assignment for a whole course. All of these you must compulsorily
answer and be graded. The grade for the best three assignments will be used in your
assessment. The TMA’s constitute 30% weight-age for each course.
c. The end-of-semester examination is the third component and constitutes 70% of the
total months for each course.
Admission Requirements
a. Proficiency Courses:
No previous experience or qualification is necessary.
b. Certificate Programmes
Evidence of Junior Secondary School attendance-
JSSC, SSCE, NECO, NABTEB, T.C.II attempted.
c. Diploma Programme
At least two (2) credits at not more than two (2) sittings.
d. Mature candidates who are 35 years and above, with relevant work experience may
be considered on their merit.
Certification/Graduation
Upon successfully completing all the required assignments and examinations, you will be awarded the NOUN Certificate or Diploma.
Next step on completion
The certificate awarded to you on completion of a certificate programme qualifies you for entry into a Diploma. If you are awarded a Diploma you will be qualified for admission into a degree programme in your relevant area of study in NOUN and also into other accredited universities in Nigeria, if you meet the requirements for admission into an undergraduate programme.
Duration and exit points
Certificate Programmes are expected to last for two semesters while the Diploma prgrammes last for four semesters. Students registered for the CCE&WT Certificate are required to complete a total of 35 credits before being eligible for graduation, while Diploma students are required to complete 60 credit units before they are awarded their certificates.
The proficiency certificate course spans 3-6 months.
