COURSE MATERIALS DEVELOPMENT UNIT (CMDU)
It is the duty of the CMDU to:
• Make up-to-date lists of course/resource materials available to the various academic units of the University
• Organise writing workshops on NOUN house style for writers (within & outside NOUN) in liaison with the schools
• Ensure quality assurance of all course materials
• Respond promptly to enquiries on course materials from the various Schools and Study Centres
• Develop an effective administrative structure and strategy for course development and course writing
• Supervise the typesetting and formatting of course materials in line with NOUN house style
• Liaise regularly with the Schools to identify status of development of courses
• Copy-edit course materials written or adapted by Programme Leaders and Course Coordinators on continuous basis
• Liaise continually with the Schools, Printing and Publishing unit, Store, Multimedia/E-Learning, ITSS/CNS to produce web and non-web materials that meet NOUN specified standards and instructional objectives
• Release proofs of course materials to the schools.
PRINTING AND PUBLISHING UNIT
The Printing/Publishing Unit is responsible for:
• Copy-editing course materials and proof reading to ensure linguistic fidelity
• Preparing course materials for non-print delivery formats in liaison with instructional designers, multimedia/web experts
• Evaluating and recommending print and other service providers for approval
• Liaising with the CMDU to get course/resource materials ready for press
• Requesting and analysing quotations from service providers
• Monitoring printers and others to ensure that they adhere to delivery schedule
• Accepting complimentary copies of printed materials and distributing same to respective schools
• Providing information on published and reprinted materials.
DOCUTECH
Docutech houses a four-unit online Xerox Digital Print on-demand book factory. The machines handle both pre-press and post-press activities.
E-LEARNING/MULTIMEDIA
E-Learning/Multimedia has a team of highly experienced multimedia/instructional design professionals who have been trained in e-content instructional media technologies. This team provides media support by:
- Designing audio and video instructional component of course materials to complement and/or supplement other formats
- Conducting research on learners’ needs in consultation with schools, study centres, students, media experts and other stakeholders in instructional resources development
- Writing and producing audio and video scripts
- Editing all recorded audio and video programmes to ensure quality production
- Engaging in educational broadcasting: voice and video training of budding designers.
- Web/e-contents of course materials.
