LAN Systems

The LAN Systems group provides Windows server infrastructure for the NOUN domain. Services offered within the NOUN domain include file and print, web, calendar, and computing infrastructure.

Services provided by LAN Systems Administration include:
- Domain design
- Server configuration
- Microsoft Service Pack installation
- Server virus protection
- Trust relationships
- Printer share creation
- Central backup/restore services
- Security policy implementation
- Testing/Implementation of security hot fixes
- The Administrative Computing Desktop.

Network Engineering

Network Engineering is the group of system, network,and operations professionals responsible fordesigning, securing and overseeing the NOUN datanetwork. The mission of Network Engineering is to design, maintain, secure and operate a state-of-the-art, University-wide data network to serve the academic applications, research requirements and support needs of NOUN. This includes both internal connectivity as well as external access to the commodity Internet and connectivity to all the study centres.
The network infrastructure at NOUN consists of high-speed Ethernet backbones. The physicalinfrastructure is comprised of twisted-pair copper
and fiber optic cabling interconnected by a variety ofrouters and switches. Network Engineering is alsoresponsible for the operation of a distributed, highly
redundant DNS, DHCP, Wireless and NTP
architecture.

Telecom Operations
Telecom Operations provides cabling and wiring infrastructure services that form the foundation for NOUNs' computer and telephone networks.

Email Services
CNS offers reliable email services for all departmentsand staff NOUN. The core of the system, namedNoungroupware, consolidates email services into aunified, reliable set of tools that include standardemail, mailing lists, and a web-based email client.

Online application and Registration Technical Support Admission and registration of courses are administered online via the Internet.

Videoconferencing and Teleconferencing Services
In order to meet the need for interaction between students and tutors in an Open Distance Learning environment, videoconferencing facility is provided between the Head Quarters and the Study Centres strategically located in the geopolitical zones around the country.
